Facilities which adhere to guidelines set for by the Safety Quality Food (SQF) institute are required to meet very specific codes are subjected to frequent monitoring to maintain an SQF certification.
What is SQF?
SQF is a globally recognized certification program which certifies food and beverage production facilities maintain consistent food safety and quality throughout their facility. There are two codes for food safety within the SQF quality management system.
SQF 2000 – This code is for manufacturers and distributors of food and beverage products and can be used by all areas of the industry.
SQF 1000 – This code is developed for food producers and requires they demonstrate they can supply food that is safe and meets specific quality standards.
How are flooring surfaces affected by SQF guidelines?
Flooring surfaces are requires to be constructed with smooth dense materials which are impact resistant and graded evenly. Flooring must also be impervious to liquid and easily cleaned.
Floors must be sloped at gradients which allow removal of overflow or wastewater under normal working conditions.
Drains must be located away from food handling areas of entrances to the facility.
