Urethane Concrete – Modern Application. Proven Results.
Urethane concrete is the ideal choice for durable, long-lasting, heavy-duty industrial floors, especially for specific applications in the food & beverage and manufacturing industries.
Choosing the right flooring system for an industrial facility will likely be the deciding factor in the success of an installation. When it’s critical for a floor to withstand a variety of extreme conditions over time, the physical properties of urethane concrete systems are far superior to those of epoxy systems in specific applications like:
Food processing and canning
Heavy-duty industrial manufacturing
Pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities
Breweries and bottling areas
Meat, fish and dairy processing plants
Chemical processing facilities
Commercial kitchens and cooking areas
Sanitization and washing locations
As a result, urethane concrete flooring such as UCRETE and Flow Resin is gaining preference as the exceptional way for industrial flooring installation specialists to serve food processing and heavy-duty manufacturing customers. The once tried-and-true epoxy mortar simply does not stand up on its own to demanding environments with severe conditions where urethane concrete has been proven ideal, such as temperature extremes, chemical and bacterial attack, thermal shock and vigorous cleaning.
Improvements with Urethane Concrete
Developed over 30 years ago, urethane concrete benefits from over 15 years of advanced scientific breakthroughs that allow more efficient installations among other improvements. Cementitious urethane (short for polyurethane) combines cement with water-based urethane technology to produce a hybrid product that exhibits the desirable properties of both:
Seamless, smooth surface
Non-toxic and non-hazardous
Outstanding resistance to chemicals and bacteria
Abrasion-resistant
Withstands heavy traffic
Sound deadening properties
UV-stable
Low odor
Anti-slip
Moisture and heat resistant
Durability and affordability
Can be used as a coating on epoxy floor
Quick to install
Because its thermal expansion properties are similar to that of concrete, urethane concrete performs ideally under conditions such as thermal shock. Its chemistry allows it to withstand temperatures up to 250 degrees, where typical epoxy resins can only perform in temperatures that are half that hot. In addition, cementitious urethane’s composition has similar elasticity to that of concrete, eliminating differential flexing that is prevalent with most other resins.
Application Advantages
Urethane concrete does not require a primer, which saves installation time. Urethane concrete can also be directly applied to new concrete, eliminating the need for the typical 28-day wait time for the concrete to cure.
Whether a flooring installer chooses a trowel-applied urethane, a self-leveling slurry or a broadcast-ready urethane for anti-slip or decorative finishes, applications typically range in thickness from 3/8 inch or ¼ inch to as thin as 1/8 inch.
For many installations, urethane concrete is used as a coating to protect epoxy, making the floor smooth, seamless and resistant to heat, chemicals and moisture-related issues. When used together, urethane concrete and epoxy can also be a powerful combination.
